About The Position

Koniag Advisory Business Solutions, LLC a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Behavioral Health Tech IV to support KABS and our government customer at Crow Agency, MT. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. This position is covered under the Service Contract Act. The Behavioral Health Technician IV provides direct support to Behavioral Health programs within the Billings Area Indian Health Service. This position delivers essential patient care services, supports clinical operations, and works collaboratively with behavioral health providers to improve patient functioning and recovery outcomes. The Technician performs duties requiring advanced experience in behavioral health, including care coordination, crisis support, patient monitoring, recovery facilitation, and skills coaching. The Behavioral Health Technician IV must be able to work independently while adhering to IHS policies, clinical protocols, and professional standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Education: Candidate must meet ONE of the following: Academic degree in a behavioral health–related field (e.g., Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Public Health).
  • High school diploma and national certification as a Psychiatric Technician from the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Experience: At least 4–5 years of experience working in a behavioral health setting, such as mental health, substance use treatment, crisis response, behavioral health residential care, or community support programs.
  • Knowledge of: DSM-VTR diagnostic criteria and common psychiatric disorders
  • Signs, symptoms, and progression of mental illness
  • Co-occurring (dual diagnosis) conditions
  • Addiction and recovery processes
  • Behavioral health crisis intervention concepts
  • Independent living support skills and community resource linkage
  • Recovery tools and Recovery Dialogue facilitation
  • Techniques for Management and Prevention of Disruptive Behavior
  • Behavioral health program eligibility and service structures
  • Certification: National Psychiatric Technician Certification required if no behavioral health degree is held.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to work independently while following clinical guidance.
  • Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Attend assigned meetings and actively participate as part of the care team.
  • Follow facility rules, policies, charting standards, and uniform requirements.
  • Comply with shift schedules, care delivery protocols, and behavioral health safety procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in Indian Health Service, Tribal, or other Native community behavioral health programs.
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive behavioral health practices.
  • Training in de-escalation, crisis prevention, or trauma-informed care.
  • Experience documenting care in electronic health record systems (EHR).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct behavioral health support services under the guidance of licensed clinical staff.
  • Observe, monitor, and document patient behavior, progress, interactions, and symptoms in accordance with established charting requirements.
  • Assist in implementing behavioral health treatment plans, interventions, and care strategies.
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of mental illness, co-occurring disorders, addiction, and psychiatric crises.
  • Facilitate or participate in Recovery Dialogues, group activities, and therapeutic skill-building exercises.
  • Provide patient education and coaching to support independent living skills and healthy behavior change.
  • Utilize knowledge of community resources to assist patients in accessing supportive services.
  • Apply Management and Prevention of Disruptive Behavior techniques to maintain a safe environment.
  • Support clinicians with case coordination, appointment follow-up, and patient engagement.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA and IHS-specific privacy requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, case staffing, and continuing education as required.
  • Perform additional duties within the behavioral health scope as assigned.
