About The Position

Kamehameha Schools is looking for a Behavioral Health Supervisor for their Maui Campus. This role involves leading and supervising a team of 4 Behavioral Health Specialists, providing direct services, crisis support, and care coordination as needed. The position supports student mental health and well-being through collaboration with families, staff, and external providers, serves on the Student Success Team, and provides on-call crisis response. This is a campus-based, 12-month supervisory position. Housing is a condition of employment for those Behavioral Health Supervisors assigned to support the campus student residential community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health or related field
  • State of Hawaii licensure in a clinical field, e.g. LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, psychologist
  • Minimum 5 years' experience providing behavioral health counseling to age appropriate children
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate group counseling activities and teach classes on behavioral health topics
  • Ability to provide high quality behavioral health counseling and to identify need for outside referral
  • High degree of professionalism and genuine concern for the well-being of students
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Organized
  • Good public speaking skills
  • Strong listening skills
  • Ability to relate well to a variety of people i.e., faculty, staff, students, parents, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Leading & supervising a team of 4 Behavioral Health Specialists
  • Providing some direct services, crisis support, and care coordination as needed
  • Supporting student mental health and well-being through collaboration with families, staff, and external providers
  • Serving on the Student Success Team
  • Providing on-call crisis response
  • Supervising Behavioral Health Specialists
  • Ensuring that policies, procedures, and protocols are followed
  • Ensuring behavioral health counseling is effective with identification of the need to refer out or reduce services
  • Ensuring student counseling is appropriately documented in the electronic health record
  • Ensuring training is provided and completed
  • Making recommendations for appropriate staffing levels which include recommendations for hire/termination
  • Conducting annual performance appraisals and providing coaching, counseling, and performance feedback on a regular and on-going basis
  • Conducting assessments and providing behavioral health counseling services to students individually and in groups as appropriate
  • Developing behavioral health counseling goals, monitoring progress, and making referrals as warranted
  • Providing crisis intervention services following established protocols, which may occur after-hours
  • Supporting overall well-being of students
  • Participating on Student Success Team with responsibility for coordinating development and implementation of student supports plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports
  • Monitoring and assessing behavior, progress, accountability, health, and safety of students
  • Coordinating with school counselor to address academic and educational supports
  • Serving as a designated liaison for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Communicating with and supporting families as related to the well-being of the student, including home visits
  • Helping with the navigation and coordination of receipt of off-campus professional services
  • Working with off-campus professionals and students on supports plans
  • Consulting with administrators, teachers, counselors, and dormitory advisors, as applicable, to provide school-based supports to optimize student well-being
  • Teaching classes to students on behavioral health related topics
  • Being a resource to employees on behavioral health related topics
  • Facilitating workshops for parents that enhance the social and emotional growth of students
  • Providing 24 hour "on-call" crisis/emergency intervention services in situations which affect the safety and well-being of a student
