About The Position

ACRS seeks a full-time Behavioral Health Services - Medical Director who responsible for the day to day operations of the psychiatric services. Directs ACRS’ psychiatric resources and services to ensure quality and efficiency of services of both nursing and physician staff. Ensures the quality and quantity of work performed by staff and compliance with program policies and procedures. Coordinates clinical functions of agency medical staff. Provides consultation and clinical supervision to all psychiatric staff. Schedule: Mon-Fri, no weekend work!

Requirements

  • Requires a Doctor of Medicine, from an accredited college or university and at least 5 years’ experience with individuals with chronic and/or acute mental illness; AND
  • Current State Board licensure. If a Medical Doctor, must have active license to practice medicine in the State of Washington, active DEA license, and ability to have professional services compensated by Medicare/Medicaid; AND
  • At least 2 years in managerial capacity.
  • Commitment to applying cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive psychiatric practices, particularly with Asian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander populations.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric principles, evidence-based treatment modalities, and best practices in community behavioral health.
  • Comprehensive understanding of integrated behavioral health service delivery, including coordination among medical, nursing, and case management teams.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing psychiatric practice, confidentiality (HIPAA), and behavioral health documentation.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychiatric providers and nursing staff, fostering professional growth and quality improvement.
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills to manage medical operations, staff coverage, performance, and quality assurance systems.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor medical policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure high-quality client care and compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Skill in fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams and maintaining positive working relationships with internal departments and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively—both orally and in writing—with staff, clients, and community partners.
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical and administrative judgment in complex or high-pressure situations.
  • Skill in facilitating meetings, trainings, and case consultations that promote learning, accountability, and client-centered service delivery.
  • Competency in navigating electronic health record (EHR) systems like EPIC and efficiently completing documentation in compliance with agency standards.
  • Effective ability to navigate a computer. Competency in use of the Microsoft Office and other relevant software for word processing, calendaring, e-mail, and spreadsheet data entry. Efficiently research and perform various tasks via the internet.
  • Must have reliable transportation. If using a personal or agency vehicle to fulfill job duties, must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under ACRS’s auto policy. If using personal vehicle, must have current auto insurance.
  • Follows all agency policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates the day to day operations of psychiatric services. Leads the development and implementation of medical policies and procedures that result in clients care improvement. Provides medical consultation regarding client issues and problem solving for administrative and logistical issues related to psychiatric services.
  • Monitors and evaluates performance and conducts all medical staff performance reviews; provides hiring/firing input to Human Resources; supervises onboarding of new medical staff; monitors medical staff caseload/ capacity.
  • Provide psychiatric care to clients as assigned, including completing psychiatric evaluations, prescribing & monitoring psychotropic medications, and participating as a member of the care team for assigned clients.
  • Provides education, training and clinical leadership to psychiatric and program staff. Maintains knowledge of clinical trends and technological advances in the psychiatric profession.
  • Attends regular behavioral health services management team meeting; conducts Quality Assurance process for medical services on a regular basis. Participates in Risk Management meetings, King County Medical Directors Meeting, other meetings as deemed appropriate to provide clinical and logistical consultation and leadership regarding client services. Leads monthly medical staff meetings.
  • As a member of the Behavioral Health Services leadership team, the Medical Director participates in shaping and developing the Behavioral Health Services Department and setting its strategic direction towards achieving status as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC)

  • Pay range is between $283,200 to $346,400 annually. Can increase based on experience.
