About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care is looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist to evaluate, interpret findings, and treat patients with complex behavioral health and/or physical dysfunctions in an acute setting. You would combine top-tier patient care with a passion for mentoring students and junior staff. You will be the expert in behavioral health, and managing complex cases, while empowering our diverse patient population to reclaim their independence. Our patient population includes a caseload mix of adolescents and adults with complex behavioral health/psychosocial needs in which the provision of care is completed in both a one to one and group setting. This inpatient position is located at our Medical Center University Campus in Iowa City. Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Licensure in accordance with the Iowa Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in Occupational Therapy is required, with a high degree of understanding of patients with behavioral health dysfunctions.
  • Demonstrated skills in clinical education abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in Occupational Therapy.
  • 3+ years of experience in treating patients with behavioral health dysfunctions.
  • Demonstrates experience as part of a multidisciplinary medical team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional patient care, evaluation, assessment, and treatment appropriate for patients with complex or specialized needs.
  • Participate in the development of innovative clinical teaching activities to meet the learning needs of staff and students.
  • Exhibit divisional and/or departmental leadership by: o Serving as a clinical resource and maintain an elevated level of clinical productivity. o Participate in clinical research and collaborate on special projects. o Assist with setting and accomplishing divisional/departmental goals and assists management, as necessary. o Develop, implement, and expand learning opportunities and skills development for staff & students. o Assist in establishing innovative programs, as well as maintaining and developing current programs. o Assist in the administration of the departmental Quality Assurance program. o Participate in the development of service operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed/assigned.
