About The Position

Black Family Development Inc. is seeking licensed School-Based Mental Health Therapists to provide mental health prevention and treatment services for students and their families. The role focuses on enhancing students' success in school through emotional and behavioral support, crisis intervention, and collaboration with school personnel. Therapists will maintain a caseload of approximately 25 families and engage in school-wide prevention services.

Requirements

  • Licensed practitioners with a Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or other human service profession required.
  • Must complete qualifications for a Qualified Children's Mental Health Professional.
  • Candidates must not be legally prohibited from billing Medicaid.
  • Michigan Credentialing Board of Addiction Professional certifications preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong computer literacy and documentation skills.
  • Strong oral communication skills and ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with solution-focused therapy.
  • Knowledge of community resources to help families meet basic needs.
  • Familiarity with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with decision-making and problem-solving incidents that may lead to increased risk of school discipline.
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support to students.
  • Deliver home-based services to families.
  • Implement prevention and intervention techniques to improve students' academic and behavioral success.
  • Provide Restorative Practices to teach conflict resolution techniques to students and school faculty.
  • Engage parents and families through in-school and home-based activities to promote student growth and well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop behavior management plans and proactive classroom incentives.
  • Consult with and educate parents and school faculty regarding student support strategies and psycho-educational challenges.
  • Maintain daily data collection and analysis to determine units of student support provided.
  • Provide crisis intervention and mental health/substance use disorder screenings.
