About The Position

Behavioral Health Psychiatrist-Corrections Behavioral Health Psychiatrist-Corrections locations Denver County Jail - 10500 E Smith Rd, Denver, CO 80239 We are recruiting for a motivated Behavioral Health Psychiatrist-Corrections to join our team! The Behavioral Health Psychiatrist for Correctional Care, under general supervision, diagnoses and treats adult patients with complex co-occurring medical, behavioral health and substance mis-use disorders as well as homelessness, poverty; and treatment-resistance. The Psychiatrist provides evidence-based cost-effective clinical services including assessment, behavioral interventions, consultation, emergency medications, M-1 holds and other involuntary treatments such as seclusion/restraints, somatic treatments, triage and other clinical services. The Psychiatrist directs care teams in identifying appropriate levels of care for complex patient presentations using experience and judgment to accomplish goals, routinely collaborating with operational colleagues to maintain quality, safety, and financial viability. Holds a faculty position at the University of Colorado.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Programs. Required
  • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
  • DEAREG-DEA Registration - DEA - Drug Enforcement Agency
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents and behavioral interventions used in patient treatment.
  • Able to receive detailed information through oral communications, express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
  • Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic/racial backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
  • Performs in a tactful and professional manner under stressful and emotionally charged circumstances.
  • Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Responsibilities

  • Directs care teams in identifying appropriate levels of care for complex patient presentations.
  • Obtains medical histories, makes appropriate diagnoses, implements and directs effective behavioral treatments during high-risk and/or life-threatening conditions including during pregnancy and peri-partum periods, malignant catatonia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, and serotonin syndrome.
  • Assesses and mitigates the risk of suicide or violence among at risk patients due to psychiatric illness.
  • Consults with non-psychiatric medical providers in the care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Interprets the results of relevant laboratory and imagining studies and applies them to the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric symptoms.
  • Conducts competency evaluations, forensic evaluations, and evaluations for involuntary medications.
  • Teaches and supervises trainees and advanced practice providers in clinical practices.
  • Document services in the health record.
  • Write professional reports.
  • Participate and/or support academic efforts in research and in professional writing.
  • Conducts scholarly work that benefits Denver Health patients and employees.
