About The Position

New Freedom’s Behavioral Health Professional (Therapist) performs a variety of therapeutic services to provide psychological care to members receiving treatment. This treatment includes a focus on various behavioral challenges such as substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, post-incarceration syndrome, and co-occurring behavioral health needs. The BHP works collaboratively with all members of the treatment team including the members and family. The level of care for the program is Intensive Outpatient Services, with specific curriculum and program design.

Responsibilities

  • Observes members, listens to their concerns, records their observations, and reports to mental health professionals about any unusual behavior(s)
  • Provides individual psychotherapy to members on their assigned caseload
  • Develops and implements service/treatment plans
  • Provides quality care for members on an outpatient basis
  • Assesses members’ changes in mood, and determines whether it is positive, negative, or potentially dangerous, taking the appropriate steps to modify the members’ actions and alert the leadership team
  • Assists members in articulating personal goals for recovery, using one-to-one and group sessions to accomplish this
  • Supports members in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports, and resources to aid them in achieving the identified goals
  • Assists members in working with their Re-Entry Specialist, Peer Coach, and/or other treatment team members in determining the steps needed to achieve the outlined goals and self-directed recovery
  • Assists members in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups, as well as locating and joining existing groups
  • Uses ongoing individual and group sessions to teach members how to successfully re-enter the community from incarceration, using appropriate clinical modalities like motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavioral therapy, etc.
  • Assists members in building effective social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition and tenure
  • Maintains safety for staff and members, including effective securing of documents and files
  • Works with other treatment team members to plan, market, and implement new programs
  • Facilitates groups that are 2-3 hours in length, five (5) days per week, with pre-determined and pre-approved curriculum
  • Completes monthly individual counseling sessions with members of assigned caseload
  • Completes staffing meetings with assigned treatment team(s)
  • Completes all necessary and required documentation within 24 hours of service(s) being provided
  • Effectively meets any/all outlined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring the highest quality and level of member care and engagement is provided
  • Maintains licensure through required supervision and/or completing continuing education requirements
  • In addition, all other duties as assigned
