About The Position

This individual partners closely with clinical leadership, including psychiatrists, primary care providers, and primary care department leadership, to translate strategic priorities into operational workflows, foster continuous improvement, and lead teams through change. The BH Manager plays a key role in advancing integrated care models such as Collaborative Care (CoCM) and other population health initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience as an LCSW required.
  • Active Maine licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
  • BLS required within 6 weeks of hire
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze data and drive performance improvement.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and registry tools.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for Behavioral Health services.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in integrated care settings (e.g., primary care, CoCM) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing caseloads, clinical outcomes, and team performance.
  • Experience with Behavioral Health billing models, including CoCM, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day Behavioral Health operations, including scheduling, access, and care delivery.
  • Ensures efficient patient flow and appropriate utilization of clinician time.
  • Supports implementation and optimization of integrated care models (e.g., CoCM registry workflows).
  • Monitors access metrics such as appointment availability, no-show rates, and patient throughput.
  • Leads or sponsors key projects related to Behavioral Health expansion, integration, or performance improvement.
  • Develops and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) such as caseload size, clinical outcomes, and productivity.
  • Ensures compliance with clinical documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates with IT and analytics teams to optimize Behavioral Health reporting and registry tools.
  • Provides direct supervision and clinical oversight of LCSWs and other behavioral health staff.
  • Conducts regular supervision sessions, case reviews, and performance evaluations to ensure high-quality clinical care.
  • Supports staff development through coaching, mentorship, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels based on patient demand, acuity, and care model (e.g., CoCM caseload expectations).
  • Participates in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of behavioral health staff.
  • Addresses performance concerns, including initiating and managing Performance Improvement Plans.
  • Approves staff payroll biweekly in accordance with organizational guidelines.
  • Promotes staff engagement, resilience, and retention in a high-demand clinical environment.
  • Works with the Compliance and Human Resources teams to ensure compliance with state, federal, and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requirements for staff.
  • Models clinical excellence and patient-centered care.
  • Establishes credibility and strong relationships with providers, care teams, and leadership.
  • Leads Behavioral Health initiatives, including integration into primary care and specialty practices.
  • Drives Lean Six Sigma and process improvement initiatives to improve access, quality, and efficiency.
  • Collaborates with department leadership to develop and refine clinical workflows, policies, and procedures while fostering intra-departmental support and collaboration between all sites
  • Supports and leads change management efforts, particularly related to care model transformation (e.g., CoCM, telebehavioral health).
  • Continuously evaluates and optimizes team roles, workflows, and care delivery models.
  • Partners closely with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and operational leaders while fostering strong working relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Facilitates clear, consistent, and effective communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicates clinical and operational updates to staff and leadership.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Acts as a liaison between Behavioral Health and other departments to ensure coordinated care.
  • Assists in the development and management of Behavioral Health budgets, including staffing models and productivity targets.
  • Monitors clinician productivity (e.g., visits, CoCM billing, caseload metrics) and reports trends to leadership.
  • Supports revenue cycle optimization, including appropriate billing for Behavioral Health services (e.g., CoCM, therapy codes).
  • Reviews financial and operational reports to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participates in business planning for Behavioral Health growth and service line development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines. Maintain confidentiality related to financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic, or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and/or employees. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
