About The Position

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Behavioral Health Interventionist focuses on behavioral stabilization and behavioral intervention and will serve as a key member of the integrated primary care practice team, playing a critical role in serving the behavioral health needs of our patients and maintaining a safe and supportive environment within a clinical setting. The Behavioral Health Interventionist will collaborate with the Crisis interventionalist, Clinical staff, and Director of Behavioral Health in providing support, intervention, and assistance to individuals with behavioral health needs. Working closely with individuals, their families, and multidisciplinary care teams to implement behavior plans, promote coping skill development, build positive relationships, while promoting safety and enhancing the overall quality of life of our patients. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required.
  • Will consider 5 years of experience in mental health with a High School Diploma/GED in lieu of an Associate’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of behavioral health experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required – will obtain during hospital orientation.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Successful completion of behavior management and de-escalation training – will obtain during department orientation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience assisting people with behavioral health needs, mental illness, current or history of substance abuse/addiction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive individualized behavioral and support plans that focus on positive therapeutic strategies.
  • Provides reassurance and emotional support for acute mental health and substance use concerns during acute hospitalization and Emergency Room visits.
  • Advocates for patients utilizing trauma informed care philosophy.
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, to ensure coordinated care and consistent implementation of behavior plans and evaluate need for 1:1 patient monitoring.
  • Maintain communication of progress, concerns, and strategies with team members.
  • Effectively respond to crisis situations, such as Code BHERTS, to help manage aggressive or self-injurious behaviors, using approved de-escalation techniques.
  • Implement crisis intervention strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals and others involved.
  • Accurately analyze Patient Sitter documentation for compliancy and to track individual progress, identify patterns, and adjust behavior plans as necessary.
  • Develops and facilitates education and training of clinical staff on de-escalation and safety.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
