About The Position

Developmental and Behavioral Health Services at Children’s Mercy cares for children and teens who need extra support with developmental, psychiatric, or psychological concerns. We understand that a child’s mental, emotional, and behavioral health is an integral part of their well-being. Each patient is paired with a personalized care team of developmental pediatricians, psychologist, and/or psychiatrist to provide medical evaluation and specialty care for children with developmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability. Managing medication and other treatments for symptoms such as impulsivity, inattention, anxiety and agitation and mental health conditions such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, Tourette’s and eating disorders. The Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator is responsible for organizing and coordinating all aspects of the intake of new patients seeking care in Developmental and Behavioral Health clinical programs. The individual will complete an intake interview with patients and a make a determination about the most appropriate type of appointment, and/or provide information about alternate resources at Children's Mercy (CM) or in the community. This individual identifies members at-risk and addresses barriers to accessing behavioral health care. This individual works closely with clinical and support staff to ensure a smooth and timely process of information gathering, decision-making, and scheduling of new patients. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health related discipline (Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services) and 1-2 years' experience OR Bachelor's in a non-behavioral health related discipline (Nursing, Criminal Justice) and 3-5 years' experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English preferred)
  • Licensure preferred: LBSW, LMSW, RN
  • If incumbent has current licensure, licensure is required to be maintained and renewed. This requirement is tracked internally. However, licensure is not required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Completes an intake interview and screening with patients and/or caregiver.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of services within the Developmental and Behavioral Health (DBH) division.
  • Understands relevant related resources and clinical programs at Children’s Mercy (outside of DBH) including steps required to access such services.
  • Matches patients’ clinical presentation to appropriate service appointment needed.
  • Informs patients not matched for care with a Children’s Mercy provider/service of this outcome.
  • Providing information on alternate community resources.
  • Assesses caregiver’s understanding of the intake process and outcome; addresses any gaps in understanding that would negatively impact the process.
  • Assists with a smooth transition from patient referral to appointment scheduling.
  • Use initiative and good, sound judgment.
  • Is able to be flexible
