About The Position

The position provides professional direct psychiatric midlevel care in accordance with contractual guidelines for an inpatient jail-based restoration program. It involves dedicated psychiatric care and serves as a liaison between Denver Health & Housing Authority and the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Correctional Care staff provide clinical care in environments with a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient and ambulatory settings based on the nature of the facilities and patient population. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health discipline.
  • 1-3 years of work experience, including one year in midlevel psychiatric practice.
  • NPPRSCAU-Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Authority certification.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support certification.
  • APNA-Advanced Practice Mental Health Nursing certification.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and psychiatric disease processes.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and medical records.
  • Ability to actively participate in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in correctional care settings.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and EPIC Electronic Health Record System.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and evaluate to create initial care plans for individual client needs.
  • Evaluate emotional components and assist clients in identifying and meeting treatment goals.
  • Order initial and routine laboratory tests and follow up on results.
  • Initiate unique, outcome-focused plans of care based on current nursing practice.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health for inpatient care.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management to resolve identified and potential problems.
  • Coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide documentation to ensure compliance with contractual guidelines.
  • Perform documentation audits and develop new documentation as required.
  • Collect data to promote self, unit, and hospital improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the psychiatric condition of patients.
  • Prescribe appropriate medications in accordance with pharmaceutical guidelines.
  • Write orders and evaluate patients' diagnostic and therapeutic services.
