About The Position

The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) at Spira Care plays a crucial role in integrating behavioral health services into primary care through the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model. This model is well-researched and aims to address the physical and behavioral healthcare needs of patients in a collaborative environment. The BHC works closely with medical providers to deliver direct behavioral health care, focusing on the treatment of common physical health issues, developmental challenges, mental health concerns, and substance misuse prevalent in the patient population. The BHC adopts a team-based approach to treatment, promoting health, quality of life, and patient self-management. As a fully integrated member of the primary care practice, the BHC serves as a consultant to both patients and practice team members. This role is designed to enhance the delivery of healthcare services, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive support in developing new strategies and skills to maintain their health improvements. The BHC is expected to provide brief, evidence-based interventions and to address the needs of patients across their lifespan, from birth to death. This integration of services not only improves clinical outcomes and reduces costs but also enhances patient and provider satisfaction by minimizing stigma and resistance to seeking behavioral health services. The BHC is responsible for demonstrating advanced knowledge of the biological, cognitive, affective, and psychosocial components of health and illness. They assist in identifying at-risk patients, provide brief interventions, and work collaboratively with the medical team to develop treatment plans. The BHC also plays a vital role in health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of both acute and chronic diseases. They are expected to respond to crisis situations, maintain documentation standards, and participate in team meetings and training sessions. Light travel may be required for this position, and flexibility in work hours is necessary to accommodate meetings and patient needs.
