About The Position

The Behavioral Health Consultant position involves diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health concerns, as well as designing behavioral health interventions to address barriers patients face in meeting their healthcare goals in a medical clinic setting. This position is well suited for those who enjoy collaborating in multidisciplinary team settings, who are dynamic and outgoing and enjoy interfacing with patients, and for those who love educating staff and patients about the benefits of healthcare integration. Those who enjoy helping patients meet their needs in shorter sessions and briefer durations of treatment will thrive in this role. Duties/Responsibilities: Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. While not all tasks may be performed by every employee in this role, all employees are expected to perform related tasks as needed. Requirements

  • Experience evaluating high-risk clients (which may be up to 75% of service provider's caseload) who are receiving services before inpatient admission and after IPH discharge.
  • Ability to connect clients with necessary services including, but not necessarily limited to, mental health, substance use, primary care, and medication services.
  • Ability to work as a team member and ability to work independently with potential for virtual supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management, and flexibility in daily practice.
  • Ability to communicate with referring partners to best address patient needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively under time-constraints and in discreet ways with primary care provision team regarding patient care/needs.

  • Ability to collaboratively document services at least 70% of the time while working with patients.
  • Education: Master's level degree in psychology or related field, Ph.D. or PsyD from an accredited college or university.
  • Certificate or Professional Licensure: LCAC, LMFT, LMHC, LCSW, or HSPP licensure and ability to practice in Indiana is required.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
  • Must have class work related to family dynamics, growth and development, normative development, childhood disorders, syndromes and pathologies, and age-appropriate treatment techniques.
  • Valid driver's license and active auto insurance coverage.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
  • Must be a minimum 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer minimum 2 years of work experience related to crisis work (risk assessment evaluations including suicidal and homicidal risk, psychotic symptoms, crisis evaluation tools such as CSSRS and crisis plans, voluntary/involuntary admissions to IPH).
  • Preferred experience working with high-risk patients.
  • Preferred experience working in an integrated care setting with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible presence to the medical providers during clinic operating hours.
  • Available for same day and scheduled initial consultations with patients referred by medical providers.
  • Assess patients and diagnose mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Create a treatment plan for patients based on the needs of the individual.
  • Conduct brief intervention sessions with patients, with/without their families, to work towards goals in treatment.
  • Performs brief, limited follow-up visits for selected patients.
  • Refer patients to other healthcare professionals when necessary.
  • Work with family members, as needed, as part of treatment for the patient.
  • Work with any patients in crisis situations, evaluate risk and initiate appropriate response to promote patient safety.
  • Complete CSSRS, CALM, and Safety Planning, or other crisis tools, and link to or provide necessary services that may include, but are not limited to, IPH admission, crisis planning, referral.
  • Complete mental health and substance use evaluations for IPH discharged patients, high risk patients, critical care patients, and patients referred from psychiatric inpatient facilities outside Bowen Health, and other patients as needed, and link them to necessary services.
  • Attend all required clinical supervision sessions and staff meetings.
  • Provide counseling services using evidenced based practices, within CSO-approved clinical scope of practice, and complete required documentation of services rendered.
  • Practice measurement-based care by the routine use of approved patient outcome measures.
  • Practice in full alignment with Bowen Health and professional trade association ethics codes including, but not limited to maintaining strong, appropriate provider-patient boundaries and avoiding dual relationships.
  • Maintain credentials with all applicable managed care contracts by completing the necessary paperwork and continuing education and returning it on a timely basis.
  • Communicate effectively with primary care providers regarding patient needs.
  • Develop understanding and use of basic medical terminology.
  • Other duties as assigned.
