About The Position

The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) at Kaiser Permanente provides integrated care to pediatric and adult patients as part of a Primary Care Medical Home or Specialty Care treatment team. This role focuses on brief, evidence-based assessments and interventions aimed at improving patient functionality. BHCs work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with primary care providers and other medical team members to deliver comprehensive behavioral health services. The position requires adaptability and the ability to manage both patient-facing and physician-facing responsibilities effectively.

Requirements

• Minimum two years of post-graduate clinical experience in an integrated care delivery system.
• Masters degree in a mental health related field.
• Credentials from multiple states required before and after hire, including licenses in Oregon and Washington.

Responsibilities

• Apply solid working knowledge of biopsychosocial models for patient assessment.
• Provide first line interventions for a broad spectrum of physical and mental health problems.
• Educate patients and families to encourage compliance with treatment plans.
• Utilize electronic health records to communicate relevant information to medical providers.
• Assess and manage suicidal and homicidal risks, collaborating with crisis teams when necessary.
• Provide consultation and training to primary care team members on mental health and behavioral medicine.
• Discuss psychotropic medications with patients and recommend initiation to primary care physicians.
