About The Position

The Behavioral Health Care Manager II is responsible for managing psychiatric and substance abuse treatment health benefits through telephonic or written review. This role is primarily provider-facing but also involves some member-facing activities, such as providing verbal notifications. The position allows for virtual work full-time, with required in-person training sessions when indicated, promoting productivity and work-life integration. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST.

Requirements

  • Requires MA/MS in social work, counseling, or a related behavioral health field, or a degree in nursing.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with facility-based and/or outpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment.
  • Current active unrestricted license such as RN, LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, or LMFT as allowed by applicable state laws.
  • Previous experience in case utilization management with complex psychiatric/substance abuse cases.
  • Prior managed care experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate screening criteria knowledge and clinical judgment to assess member needs.
  • Ensure access to medically necessary quality behavioral healthcare in a cost-effective setting.
  • Refer cases to Peer Reviewers as appropriate.
  • Perform psychiatric and substance abuse assessment coordination, implementation, case planning, monitoring, and evaluating.
  • Promote quality member outcomes to optimize member health benefits.
  • Serve as a resource to other BH Care Managers.
  • Assist with more complex cases and participate in inter and intradepartmental teams’ projects and initiatives.
