About The Position

The Behavioral Health Associate I serves as an integral part of the multidisciplinary treatment team and is responsible for monitoring and reporting of client behaviors; providing continuous client care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling; assisting in client data collection, recording, and maintenance; and responding in crisis situations and medical emergencies as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Six months or more experience working with the specific population of the facility preferred.
  • Knowledge of common psychiatric disorders and/or dual diagnosis and various treatment modalities preferred.
  • CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and report client behaviors.
  • Provide continuous client care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling.
  • Assist in client data collection, recording, and maintenance.
  • Respond in crisis situations and medical emergencies as needed.
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at intervals according to individualized guidelines.
  • Check clients for contraband and manage client valuables.
  • Interact routinely with clients and observe behaviors.
  • Promote interest in recreational activities.
  • Engage clients in activities designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
  • Facilitate client educational-rehabilitative groups covering various topics.
  • Take and record vital signs and communicate significant changes to the charge nurse.
  • Document in client records timely, accurately, and appropriately.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques to manage client emotions and behavior.
  • Assist with unit cleaning and organization of new admits charts.
  • Initiate client/employee incident reports.
  • Provide transfer or transportation for clients as required.
  • Provide verbal report/briefing to the oncoming shift.
  • Serve as a resource for new clients, introducing them to other clients and staff.
  • Orient clients to the activities program and explain benefits.
  • Maintain awareness of client's needs and individual goals.
  • Assist with activity planning and offer new activity ideas.
  • Organize and set up equipment for recreational activities.
  • Provide clients with activity resources and supplies.
  • Enforce safety rules to prevent injury and modify activities as needed.
  • Help develop and maintain departmental resources.
