Sierra Vista Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Admission Nurse (Per Diem) shift for the Intake Department. The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.

Requirements

  • Minimum associates Degree from an accredited program and an RN license.
  • A minimum of six (6) months direct medical and clinical experience as a licensed RN, preferably in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
  • Direct experience in patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations preferred.
  • ER experience with psychiatric patients with demonstrated knowledge acceptable.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Complete knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.

  • Experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
  • Direct experience in patient assessment and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

  • Support the department using established nursing protocol for all possible admissions.
  • Answer inquiry calls and schedule assessments.
  • Perform psychiatric assessments for individuals presenting for an assessment.
  • Provide clinical summary and recommendation based on assessment findings.
  • Consult with the psychiatrist and refer individuals to the appropriate lowest level of care based on psychiatrist's orders.
  • Provide community referrals as indicated and desired by individuals.
  • Take telephone orders from admitting MDs.
  • Perform initial medical screening through referring ERs.
  • Responsible for initial insurance pre-authorization of admitted patients within 24 hours.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized and clean department by auditing and data entry of referrals, re-stocking documents and forms, and filing as time permits.
  • Participate in cross-functional training to learn skills that will allow the license to work seamlessly throughout the facility.
