About The Position

At Hands of Heartland, we believe that people with developmental disabilities are people first. We are looking for dependable, compassionate Behavior Support Specialists to work with an individual with a developmental disability who has some behavioral challenges in Lincoln, NE. Preferred applicants will have at least two years of related experience, or a degree/certification related to behavioral health.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Valid driver's license and Current automobile insurance
  • Must be able to pass all background checks
  • Ability to be certified in enhanced behavioral intervention
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds as needed
  • Ability to use verbal and physical intervention to redirect and/or to complete an emergency safety intervention with a person who is physically aggressive or self-abusive
  • Ability to communicate with other people in-person, by telephone, and in writing
  • Ability to use verbal and physical intervention to redirect and/or restrain a person who is physically aggressive or self-abusive
  • Ability to safely provide supervision and monitoring to meet the needs of people supported by Hands of Heartland
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time to include but not limited to bending, stooping, sitting, and reaching
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of related experience or a degree/certification related to behavioral health preferred
  • Male staff preferred, as that is individual's preference
  • Candidates with prior experience and a valid CNA license are eligible for higher compensation based on qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide services to address the wants and needs of people with developmental disabilities, which may include:
  • Supporting personal goals
  • Administering medications
  • Planning and preparing meals
  • Assisting with activities of daily living
  • Transporting to and from day program and community outings
  • Reinforcing therapies, including speech, behavioral support, and physical therapy
  • Ensuring all needs are addressed in a respectful manner with dignity and personal choice
  • Completing and maintaining required documentation on a web-based system
