The Behavior Support Paraprofessional is a vital role within the Naperville Community Unit School District 203, specifically designed to provide essential services and support to the instructional program in assigned classrooms. This position focuses on assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with unique or specialized needs, whether in a regular classroom or a specialized program. The paraprofessional will work closely with teachers to develop and implement individualized plans or interventions aimed at enhancing both academic and social/emotional skills. A key aspect of this role involves monitoring and intervening in student behavior, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to thrive in the least restrictive environment (LRE). The Behavior Support Paraprofessional will apply principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and humanistic behavioral approaches to facilitate effective learning experiences for students. This includes adapting classroom activities and materials under the guidance of the supervising teacher, administering tests and homework, and assisting students with daily living activities as needed. The paraprofessional will also communicate regularly with instructional staff and professional support personnel to evaluate student progress and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives. In addition to providing direct support to students, the paraprofessional will monitor students in various school environments, such as restrooms, playgrounds, and hallways, to maintain a safe and positive learning atmosphere. They will also be responsible for implementing behavioral plans, collecting data, and reporting observations related to student behavior and academic progress. The role requires responding to emergency situations and assisting in managing behavioral crises, all while maintaining a collaborative relationship with certified staff and adhering to the guidelines set forth by the school administration.
