About The Position

Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation's CORE Program is grounded in trauma-informed practices designed to create a sense of safety, trust, and belonging for all students. This teaching position serves secondary-level students who exhibit significant behavioral challenges and require intensive, individualized support beyond what is typically available in a self-contained behavior resource classroom.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Indiana teaching license: Mild Intervention or Intense Intervention

Responsibilities

  • Deliver intensive behavioral and social-emotional instruction to students requiring support beyond the scope of a self-contained behavior resource classroom.
  • Provide daily, explicit, and targeted social skills instruction aligned with students' individualized needs.
  • Facilitate a daily nurture group to build connection, emotional regulation, and classroom community.
  • Collaborate with the behavior team-including the district special education staff, -to conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs).
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans.
  • Utilize and adjust reinforcement systems based on ongoing behavior data to effectively support student growth.
  • Collect and analyze behavioral and academic progress monitoring data.
  • Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention (Mandt) strategies, prioritizing proactive de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Serve as the Teacher of Record, including responsibilities such as developing compliant IEPs and chairing case conferences.
  • Collaborate regularly with the district BCBA, behavior technicians, building-level special education teams, and administrators.
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with parents and guardians.
  • Provide positive leadership and guidance to classroom support staff, including behavior technicians.
