About The Position

The position involves providing essential care and support to patients, particularly those with psychiatric concerns and behavioral issues. The role requires a strong focus on patient privacy, safety, and quality care, while also promoting good public relations for the nursing department and hospital. The individual will assist in admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring accurate documentation of patient data and securing patient belongings. Competence in performing clinical skills and knowledge of patient care equipment is crucial. The position also involves leading therapy sessions, crisis intervention, and maintaining infection control standards. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a team environment, while also observing and recording vital signs and patient progress. The role requires the ability to provide therapeutic care to individuals with mental, emotional, or developmental disabilities, and to assist with daily living skills. Additionally, the position may involve providing emergency behavioral health assistance and recognizing signs of potential harm.

Requirements

  • BLS training required.
  • SECURE training required.
  • Previous Certified Nurse Assistant/Nurse Assistant experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes good public relations for the nursing department/hospital.
  • Provides for patient privacy at all times.
  • Assists in admissions, transfers, and discharges; collects and documents patient admission data correctly.
  • Secures disposition of patient belongings.
  • Competently performs core and unit specific clinical skills.
  • Knowledgeable of proper and safe use of patient care equipment.
  • Leads prescribed individual or group therapy sessions.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record vital signs, symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Ability to provide therapeutic patient care to mentally, emotionally, and/or developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to assess and provide for the day-to-day needs of mentally, emotionally and/or developmentally disabled patients.
  • Ability to safely lift and physically manipulate patients.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records/charts.
  • Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
  • Aids in basic patient care such as eating, bathing, dressing, and teaching basic hygiene and daily living skills while observing patient progress.
  • Provides behavioral health emergency assistance, such as verbal de-escalation, seclusion, or patient restraint.
