About The Position

Under the general direction of the Principal/ Certified Teacher, the Behavior Aide is responsible for providing assistance to students under the supervision of certificated staff in Behavior Intervention Programs and other learning environments where BIP-placed students are integrated. The dedicated aide will assist with specialized instruction and related services for students with special needs.

Requirements

  • Illinois Paraprofessional License Required
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Any combination equivalent to: an associate's degree, sixty (60) semester hours
  • One-year experience working with children
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures
  • Statistical data collection
  • Basic knowledge of applied behavioral analysis, including how antecedents and consequences affect student behavior
  • Student de-escalation and safe methods of physical intervention during crisis
  • Safety rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Ability to Communicate clearly and effectively
  • Willingness to follow Certified Teacher's directions
  • Maintain confidentiality as appropriate
  • Assist in student de-escalation and physical intervention when needed
  • Use computers and related technologies as needed by the program goals
  • Meet district standards of professional conduct as outlined in Board Policy
  • Organizational skills, using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Written and oral communications
  • Learning and interpreting assignments, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Regular attendance to perform assigned duties
  • Assist BIP students in one-to-one, small group, and integrated settings in all instructional areas including academics, socialization, adaptive behavior, and behavioral growth
  • Assist students in dealing with conflict, expressing themselves in appropriate ways, and improving their behavior with an emphasis on successful reintegration
  • Assist teacher in educational instruction
  • Coordinate activities and meet with teacher (s) on a regular basis
  • Implement prescribed behavioral strategies and positive behavior support
  • Maintain safety of students and act as a positive role model
  • Assist teacher (s) in the maintenance of student records and grades
  • Physically be prepared to effectively manage and restrain aggressive students
  • Collect and maintain data logs regarding student's learning goals
  • Assist with special project; prepare exhibits
  • Check homework, grade papers, compile portfolios, record grades
  • Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyards, hallways and on fieldtrips
  • Perform exercise or play games to help physical and social development
  • Assist students with lavatory usage or clothing routines
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and meetings
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
