About The Position

Provide instructional and behavioral support to students with emotional/behavioral needs in order to improve academic achievement, social-emotional skills, and self-regulation. Implement IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) while supporting campus-wide behavior systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
  • Experience with behavior intervention preferred
  • Have or be willing to obtain Handle With Care Certification
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation
  • Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology
  • Ability to work with students with pervasive developmental disabilities
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer experience working with students including implementing behavior management strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and behavior instruction to students; work with individual students or small groups (this can also include behavior support through inclusion)
  • Conduct and/or assist with completion of functional behavioral assessment (FBA) based on observation of students in school, home, and community environments. Work with school staff and parents in teaching socially acceptable behaviors to students based on individual needs.
  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers to design and develop research based behavioral intervention plans (BIP), provide support to instructional staff in implementing BIPs, and classroom management strategies.
  • Maintain and monitor student data for students with a behavior intervention plan or behavior goals.
  • Implement, monitor and support the implementation of the IEP, as written, for students in a self- contained behavior classroom. Responsibilities include developing the PLAAFP and goals, as well.
  • Utilize strategies to de-escalate students in classrooms or behavior classroom.
  • Work with students with behaviors or disruptive behavior removals in classroom.
  • Co-plan with general education teachers to support academic instruction for students with a behavior intervention plan or behavior goals.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in a small group or individual setting which can include leading social skills lessons.
  • Model de-escalation techniques and discipline strategies for teachers when needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, curriculum department and campus administration to develop aligned social lessons and behavior strategies.
  • Observes and gives feedback to teachers to adjust interventions as necessary.
  • Assist with the implementation and adjustment of behavior intervention plans.
  • Assist with escorting students to and from classes.
  • Work with students in the classroom to role model appropriate behaviors.
  • Assist with end of the day checkouts and homework checks.
  • Participate in ARD or RTI meetings when related to students with a behavior intervention plan or behavior goals.
  • Supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Consult with district and outside resources regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, statistical data, and other documents required.
  • Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal, special education director, and the superintendent.
