The Before and After School Program Teacher position at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is designed to provide a safe, reliable, and engaging environment for children before and after school. This role involves assisting in the planning and implementation of educational activities, ensuring the well-being of participants, and fostering a positive atmosphere that aligns with the YMCA's mission and values.

  • Assist Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans.
  • Prepare materials for daily activities.
  • Maintain records of attendance, arrival, and departure times.
  • Provide weekly lesson plans to parents.
  • Communicate daily activity information to each participant's parent.
  • Supervise children during program hours.
  • Assist Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as needed.
  • Maintain the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom.
  • Perform any other functions necessary for the smooth operation of the YMCA.
  • Six months to one year of youth development related experience or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
  • Ability and desire to work with school-age children.
  • Experience in a similar educational or childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of child development principles.
