Requirements

  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children.
  • OR An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children.
  • Medically fit to perform all job duties and free of any communicable diseases including TB.
  • Warm, friendly, and upbeat with exceptional people skills.
  • Professional, reliable, and always prompt.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, lift, carry (up to 50 lbs.), and keep up with energetic children.

Responsibilities

  • Developing weekly plans and implementing age-appropriate curriculum (lesson plan) to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development in their care.
  • Provides a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth.
  • Plan, evaluate, and improve the physical environment in each program to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child.
  • Provide responsive care to all children by adapting daily routines and plans, for the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating cultural, linguistic, and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans.
  • Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/caregivers.
  • Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent participation.
  • Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships and experience clear communication with teaching staff.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely client and agency records, including daily meal and attendance records.
  • Maintain up-to-date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profiles, and other records as needed.
  • Complete daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of the children.
  • Assure a healthy, safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
  • Assist with the supervision of staff and volunteers at assigned site.
  • Ensure that the Childcare Assistant is kept updated on all matters concerning the classroom and program.
  • Report all staffing and classroom concerns to Director in a timely manner.
  • Participate in ongoing in-service and educational development opportunities provided by the Agency.
  • Participate in ongoing development and evaluation of the center's goals and objectives.
  • Occasionally carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed in this job description.
