About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit , charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direct supervision of the Youth and Family Director or designated supervisor , Before/After School Counselors are responsible for delivering high-quality school age program to their assigned group of students .

Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 or older, required.
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in program area.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide and role model quality customer service, and effectively evaluate other staff
  • Demonstrated organization and communication skills
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid; the following training provided by the Y: Appropriate Touch, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Managing your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, Aquatics Safety at the Pool, Hazard Communication for Employees, Social Media & Digital, Communications, Safe Lifting, Harassment Prevention, Preventing Member and Guest Slips, Trips, and Falls, Risk Management 101
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle objects, to hold or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities with program participants which may include, but are not limited to, walking, standing for long periods of time, running, and throwing.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Responsibilities

  • Support the mission, vision, and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Be directly responsible for the supervision, behavior management and safety of an assigned group of students.
  • Maintain sight and sound supervision.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and other records as assigned.
  • Implement scheduled activities and schedule in a way that promot es and models the 4 character values.
  • Prepare and clean up needed supplies and materials for daily activities.
  • Actively participate in organized games and activities, including but not limited to, swimming, teambuilding activities, and arts and crafts.
  • Follow North Carolina Childcare Licensing Standards.
  • Communicate immediately wit h Director or designated staff if there is a conflict with the staff schedule.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
