The Taproom Beertender is responsible for providing excellent, attentive service to the Taproom guests and the cleanliness and maintenance of the Salinas Taproom. Additionally, you are the “face” at the Salinas Taproom for locals and regulars and you must be comfortable and competent at building relationships with everyone. You should be energetic and passionate about all facets of our beers and the brewing process. You will be an ambassador for ASB and champion a culture of ethics resulting in fair and equitable treatment of all. The right candidate must be enthusiastic about the beer industry and have a desire to promote what makes Alvarado Street Brewery unique. The Taproom is a fast-paced environment; therefore, the ideal candidate should have a natural ability to work well under pressure, keeping a positive attitude while staying on task. This is an hourly position reporting to the Finance Manager & Beer Educator.

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all patrons.
  • Greet customers promptly and courteously.
  • Serve customers in a timely manner that meets/exceeds their expectations.
  • Make connections and form relationships with patrons.
  • Educate guests on our beer offerings and brand history, as well as our company culture.
  • Respond to customer needs and questions.
  • Guide patrons in selecting ASB beers, using beer style and flavor knowledge to suggestively sell products based on guest interactions.
  • Pour beverages efficiently and be mindful of waste.
  • Ensure lawful compliance and safety by making sure all customers consuming alcohol are of legal drinking age.
  • Follow alcohol awareness procedures for preventing intoxication and dealing with intoxicated guests.
  • Set up, close down, and clean the taproom thoroughly on a daily basis.
  • Maintain clean glassware through proper wash, rinse, and sanitize techniques.
  • Stock beer and retail merchandise in the taproom.
  • Ensure proper payment for all sales are collected and that the team of servers perform transaction handling procedures accurately.
  • Promote the sale of beer and non-beer products, including merchandise, sold in the taproom and promote SBC, the specials and upcoming events.
  • Assist the Taproom Manager with tracking sales and maintaining inventory, as well as identifying discrepancies or shortages.
  • Ensure the point-of-sale and draft systems are operating optimally at all times.
  • Report all equipment problems, bar maintenance issues, violations or substandard practices to the Taproom Manager immediately upon encountering a problem.
  • Attend brewery staff meetings, as required.
  • Communicate with taproom staff and management to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Keep the bar organized and all supplies stocked in the proper location.
  • Develop and implement safety and security policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Monitor patron behavior and level of intoxication.
  • Use eye contact and body language to let troublesome patrons know that their conduct is reaching the threshold for unacceptable behavior.
  • Warn patrons who are exhibiting objectionable behavior with a well-timed and discreet comment to resolve objectionable behavior in early stages.
  • Remove obnoxious and offensive persons.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times and especially when asking patrons to leave.
  • Call the police in response to criminal acts, as required.
  • Control over-crowding and taproom intensity.
  • Resolve conflicts and restrain anyone who gets into a fight, take care of patrons' welfare.
  • Resolve guest problems whenever possible and communicate issues to management.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
  • Fair, consistent, impartial, and ethical individual.
  • Excellent guest service and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to respond quickly and competently and problem solve under pressure.
  • Takes responsibility, inspires, and leads with integrity.
  • Ability to provide superior guest experiences in demanding situations.
  • Takes initiative, detail oriented with an awareness of the larger picture.
  • Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on listening, empathy, and common sense.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment with a growing company.
  • Passionate about beer, enthusiastic about the process and has a desire to learn.
  • Responsible Beverage Service/TIPS certification.
  • Understanding of, and experience with, the cleaning, maintenance, repair and operational principles of a direct draw draft beer system.
  • Able to stand, walk, and be on your feet for prolonged periods
  • Able to maneuver on uneven ground
  • Able to read and follow written English instructions
  • Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, and occasionally crawl
  • Able to change out kegs and lift/carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 160+ pounds on occasion and 25 pounds regularly using appropriate techniques and tools.
  • Able to safely navigate crowded spaces.
  • Able to resolve conflicts and restrain anyone who gets into a fight to ensure patrons' welfare.
  • Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise and occasionally slippery floors.
  • Computer literate.
  • Able to tolerate exposure to extreme changes in temperature.
  • Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
