About The Position

The Bed Truck Driver: Levels 1 - 3 is responsible for moving all equipment around on location and reporting to the Truck Pusher. This role involves the safe, healthy, and environmentally protective movement of drilling rigs and related equipment from current to new locations. Drivers are expected to ensure all required paperwork is in their truck, maintain trip sheets, interstate mileage records, and logbooks. They must also maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, perform light maintenance on their units, and keep pre-trip inspection records. Adherence to all safety policies, load securement requirements, and DOT laws, rules, and regulations is mandatory. The position requires close communication with supervisors and rig managers, documentation of work per Ensign standards, and a willingness to travel and work long hours, including weekends, often on short notice. Drivers will report and correct unsafe practices, participate in safety programs, and attend operations training.

Requirements

Understands and is capable of reading all safety / training requirements and materials
Demonstrates knowledge of basic mechanical and technical skills

Be at least 21 years of age, according to USDOT regulations
Pass a post-offer physical examination, fitness testing, safety aptitude test, drug tests & background check
Provide proof of and maintain proper legal authorization to work in the United States
Arrange for reliable transportation to and from work and training locations
Be able to speak and read English well enough to understand verbal and written safety postings, alerts and announcements, communicate with co-workers and be able to participate in job safety analysis meetings
Maintain a valid CDL Class A License, good driving record and medical card; and meet Ensign Insurance Requirements to drive, including permission for release of driver records

Nice To Haves

3 years of experience (for Level 3)
Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements (for CDL Class A License)

Responsibilities

Works in a safe, healthy, and environmentally protective manner
Moves drilling rigs and related equipment from the current location to the new location
Ensures all required paperwork is in their truck
Keeps trip sheets, interstate mileage records, and logbooks
Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment and performs light maintenance on units they drive
Maintains pre-trip inspection records
Abides by and is responsible for enforcement of safety policies
Follows all load securement requirements
Follows direction and is in close communication with supervisor and rig managers
Documents work per Ensign standards
Abides by all DOT laws, rules and regulations and is willing and able to travel when and where requested
Demonstrates willingness and availability to work long hours and weekends when requested on short notice
Reports and corrects any unsafe work practices and safety hazards
Participates in all safety programs, processes and requirements
Attends Operations Training up to two times per year and up to five days per training at designated locations
Performs other duties as directed by management
Understands and is proficient in Haul Truck: Level 3 duties (Level 1)
Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (Level 1)
Demonstrates knowledge of capabilities of truck (Level 1)
Checks lines for wear or breakage (Level 1)
Communicates well and completes paper work and logs properly (Level 1)
Understands and is proficient in Bed Truck Driver: Level 1 duties (Level 2)
Demonstrates knowledge of proper lifting capabilities of bed truck (Level 2)
Cleans and maintains truck (Level 2)
Makes sure truck has proper rigging equipment to perform job safely (Level 2)
Helps out in yard, when asked (Level 2)
Answers phone when needed for after-hours duty (Level 2)
Mentors Bed Truck Drivers: Level 1 (Level 2)
Understands and is proficient in Bed Truck Driver: Levels 1 & 2 duties (Level 3)
Demonstrates knowledge of where all pieces set (Level 3)
Performs paperwork daily (Level 3)
Assists with other operations as needed (Level 3)
Mentors Bed Truck Drivers: Levels 1 & 2 (Level 3)
Fully understands Ensign’s ethics policy and its application in all business dealings including contractual agreements and contract negotiations
Understands and agrees to follow all of Ensign’s Policy and Directives and procedures as set forth in the Ensign Company Policy and Basic Directives Handbook for Employees
Maintains valid First Aid and CPR Certifications and technical and safety certifications required by company or government agencies; remains current on all OSHA, EUSD and other required training
Conforms to a drug-free workplace, not be under the influence of mind-altering prescription or non-prescription drugs, including alcohol and other drugs of abuse.
Understands fully the Ensign Health and Safety policy and self-responsibility for own health and safety at work; Demonstrates responsibility to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission
Uses the correct protective clothing and equipment as provided by Ensign and guards against misuse or damage to such equipment
Reports any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, no matter how minor
Avoids injury resulting from manual handling tasks, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniques
