About The Position

The YMCA Beacons School Success Lead Staff position is designed for individuals passionate about youth development, serving as mentors and educators within the YMCA Beacons network. This part-time role focuses on creating a fun and inclusive environment for youth, planning lessons, and leading group activities in a school-based setting. The position emphasizes skill-building, youth voice, and hands-on learning, aiming to transform schools into vibrant community hubs that offer high-quality educational and recreational activities for students.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Experience and/or education in youth studies, child development, human relations, communication, or recreational programs.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR; First Aid; and AED.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and facilitate youth development programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and mediation skills.
  • Willingness to work with people of diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with school age children in an enrichment setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 6 months experience working with school-aged youth.
  • Degree in education, recreation or field related to child care.
  • Supervisory/management experience.
  • Multilingual.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed and Youth Development best practices.
  • Specialized skills that can be taught to youth (e.g., dance, music, computer skills, art, sports).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and implement enrichment curriculum and program activities with a group of young people.
  • Provide work direction to program staff and volunteers while on duty.
  • Evaluate the program on a continuous basis and recommend needed changes to the Beacons School Success Sr. Coordinator and/or Program Director.
  • Ensure that the center and classroom spaces are kept clean and organized.
  • Perform administrative activities to support the program, including collecting daily attendance.
  • Assist in the promotion of the program including recruiting young people to program, communication to families and school staff.
