About The Position

This position is responsible for serving as lifeguard at Duxbury beach, attending training programs to maintain certification requirements, responding to customer inquiries and providing information to the public pertaining to beach lifeguard duties as necessary. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.

Requirements

• Knowledge of water safety practices, recreation and leisure activities and ability to relate to youth/adolescents and their families.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Effective time management and customer service skills.
• Ability to develop effective and constructive working relationships with adults of all ages, children/adolescents and service providers.
• Must be physically fit in order to participate in department-sponsored activities or programs or have any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Must be at least 16 years of age and possess the following certifications: Lifeguard. First Aid, and CPR with AED.
• Must have or acquire Water Safety Instructor certification.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug, CORI/SORI and background screenings.

Responsibilities

• Monitors beach and water-related activities closely throughout shift and identifies any safety issues.
• Directs swimmers out of the water if necessary, in hazardous conditions.
• Maintains a clean environment in and around the water and surrounding areas.
• Provides assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary.
• Assists the public, other town departments and vendors by furnishing a variety of routine information and assistance and resolving minor problems and complaints.
• All other related duties as assigned.
