This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers (use as appropriate), you will be responsible for developing the work instructions and supporting the activities for engine tear-down, engine final assembly and final assembly component machining. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize the build sequence and schedules. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply)
  • 3+ years of manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering experience
  • 1+ years of experience creating work instructions
  • Engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Direct experience manufacturing hardware (i.e. castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, and final acceptance testing of integrated hardware)
  • Experience developing/starting new manufacturing processes
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)

Nice To Haves

  • Assembly manufacturing engineering experience (rocket engines, jet engines, aeronautic, automotive, etc)

Responsibilities

  • Translate engineering requirements into repeatable, high-quality manufacturing processes aligned to Blue Origin’s mission.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams.
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment
  • Support and perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions
  • Ensure conformance to quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001), fostering a culture of safety and mission assurance.
  • Identify and deliver on opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction, enabling scalable manufacturing.
  • Drive and enhance assembly, disassembly and machining processes
  • Drive continuous improvement to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule
  • Conduct DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
  • Closely lead manufacturing and build sequences, and support schedule development of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process
  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing
  • Develop process control measures and evaluation through statistical analysis
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment is manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered properly to support engine builds
  • Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process
  • Handle hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process
