About The Position

BCA maintains a list of active, qualified gallery staff. In this position, the primary responsibility is to provide customer service for BCA's gallery at 135 Church Street; additional duties include, on occasion, assistance with art installation for changing exhibitions onsite at BCA Center and offsite at select community locations; support of gallery-based programs at the BCA Center or outside in City Hall Park. Staff will work both independently and within a team. Staff should be knowledgeable or willing to learn about visitor service, rudimentary art interpretation, and art installation, including painting and object handling. Gallery staff must have a high level of people skills, be punctual, reliable and trustworthy, interested in learning about current BCA exhibitions and programs, and be professional at all times. Gallery staff will be trained in museum best practices based on entry-level experience. Gallery staff shifts occur primarily on Saturdays and Sundays, with the occasional weekdays, and are scheduled several times a month.

Responsibilities

  • Open BCA Center building and galleries and ensure art works and spaces are ready for public viewing.
  • Welcome visitors and orient them to exhibition locations and themes.
  • Support gallery volunteers onsite.
  • Provide information about BCA programs and services as needed.
  • Implement simple visitor surveys and solicit general feedback.
  • Conduct sales of merchandise and art works.
  • Close galleries, secure and alarm building.
  • Support installation needs at the BCA Center and off-site locations as needed.
  • Conduct clerical support for exhibition and other BCA programs when visitors are not present.
