About The Position

As multi-departmental program, the Baylor Bridge Program is a conditional admission program for students that initially do not meet the undergraduate admission requirements. Baylor Bridge students are invited to a residential experience in Summer II term. After completing seven credit hours and earning a 2.5 GPA, students will be offered full admission to Baylor University. The Graduate Apprentices for Baylor Bridge will live in the residence hall alongside the Bridge students to foster their engagement and success while on campus and connect them with appropriate resources across their Baylor Bridge experience . The Apprentices will have a daily presence with the Bridge students in Summer II through living program-wide social activities, casual evening gatherings, group text thread, and other ways to build connection to one another and to Baylor University. The GA’s will also gain teaching experience alongside Dr. Rishi Sriram. Dr. Sriram will lead a lecture session on Mondays for STL 1103 Learning to Learn for Bridge students in Summer II. The Bridge GA’s will lead a smaller, seminar-style section on Wednesdays discussing the week’s lecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years of experience in related field, residence life preferred
  • A passion for pre-college and new student programs, including mentoring, academic success, and student engagement programming
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - able to communicate directly, concisely and/or diplomatically as required, knowing how, when and what to communicate.
  • Strong customer service abilities with the desire to support and nurture individuals involved in the Baylor Bridge program
  • PC skills, including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas skills a plus
  • Highly productive, able to work effectively on a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy in interpersonal relationships
  • Regular weekday (Monday-Friday) attendance/availability is required during a one-hour weekly class session, evening time, as well as weekend work
  • Ability to work additional hours, if necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of recruitment strategies, including but not limited to prospective student management, marketing, and targeted recruitment efforts
  • Experience with CRM systems a plus
  • Assessment and data driven mindset

Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships and connections with Baylor Bridge students through near-daily community building activities
  • Serve as a visible and highly present resource in the residential hall community for student interaction
  • Work cooperatively with parents and students, responding to concerns as needed
  • Lead a weekly class section of STL 1103 Learning to Learn
  • Promote student development; support student success and academic initiatives; and other student engagement activities
  • Coordinate calendar of events and activities that build community and connection to the university and liaise with campus partners in this effort. The ability to work evenings and weekends is important to this position.
  • Liaison with appointed contacts in Undergraduate Admissions, Student Success and Student Life to provide regular updates regarding the Baylor Bridge students
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with residential hall/apartment as well as other University policies and procedures
  • Exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
  • Comply with University policies
