At Wisk, we're transforming the future of urban mobility through safe, all-electric, autonomous flight. We are a passionate team working together toward a sustainable future, solving high-impact problems that have never been solved before. By delivering everyday flight for everyone, we're making it possible to spend less time getting there and more time being there. If you want to be part of shaping the future of mobility, then read on! Wisk’s internship experience is a 12 week, hands-on program. Our goal for our internship program is to see what it’s like to be a full time Wisk employee and complete meaningful work. We are looking for a Battery Thermal Engineering Intern to join our team for summer 2025. The goal of a Battery Thermal Engineer at Wisk is to ensure that the Propulsion battery of the Wisk Gen 6 aircraft operates safely and efficiently during all flight phases and abnormal events. You will be part of the Energy Storage and Power Systems (ESPS), Thermal and Venting team that is responsible for the thermal management and containment strategies, as well as the specific products to meet these requirements.

  • As part of the ESPS organization, and deployed in the Thermal & Venting team you will act as a Thermal Engineer for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market.
  • Take part in the development and implementation of thermal management strategies for battery systems and associated power electronics.
  • Support problem solving activities related to battery cooling, thermal runaway containment, system testing and flight testing.
  • Contribute to real aircraft system and component design, ensuring effective thermal performance and safety.
  • Assist in technology maturation efforts, supporting prototype hardware design, integration and test execution to ensure thermal systems meet functional requirements.
  • Post process and report analysis results to support design decisions and optimize the thermal management system for performance, weight and cost.
  • Perform system analysis based on first-principles calculations and simulations.
  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters or PhD degree with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2028
  • Preferred fields of study: Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical or Chemical Engineering
  • You have worked on the development of complex hardware products in aerospace, automotive or other similar industrial applications (e.g. work experience, internships or student teams)
  • CAD experience with prototype or production hardware in commercial packages such as Solidworks, CATIA or Siemens NX
  • Hands-on experience building prototypes, setting up and running tests - preferably with battery-powered and thermal-fluid systems
  • Familiarity with instrumentation practices for thermally-focussed testing such as the application of thermocouples, heat flux sensors and pressure transducers
  • Programming experience for system modeling and data processing, preferably with Matlab/Simulink or Python
  • Strong documentation skills and can write detailed test and analysis technical reports
  • You have a safety-oriented mindset and have worked around hazardous equipment requiring advanced safety training
  • Embrace learning, be curious, organized & methodical and pay attention to detail
