Battery Mathematical Modeling Intern (Internship - Summer 2026)Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for an Electrochemical Model Development Intern to support the development of a core battery modeling environment. This environment will enable the rapid analysis of critical battery performance metrics, including energy efficiency, power capability, thermal performance, and degradation mechanisms.WHAT YOU WILL DO Implement and Validate Electrochemical Models: Implement physics-based (e.g., P2D) or equivalent circuit models (ECM) of lithium-ion batteries within the modeling environment, and validate their performance against experimental cell data across various operating conditions (e.g., C-rates, temperatures). Develop Thermal and Degradation Sub-models: Contribute to the integration and development of thermal sub-models to predict temperature distributions and associated degradation mechanisms (e.g., SEI growth, lithium plating) to enhance the environment's capability for lifecycle analysis. Automate and Optimize Simulation Workflows: Assist in creating automated data processing and simulation workflows (using languages like Python or MATLAB) to enable the rapid analysis of battery performance metrics such as energy efficiency and power capability. Document and Support Model Use: Document the implemented models, validation results, and best practices for the modeling environment, and support the internal team in using the models for specific battery design and performance analysis tasks.
