About The Position

Merjent, Inc. is seeking Bat Survey Technicians (Project Hire) to work as part of a team conducting acoustic bat surveys in support of a linear utility project in Upper Michigan and Northern Wisconsin. Bat Survey Technicians provide technical support to a Bat Survey Field Lead during acoustic bat surveys, which require a basic understanding of ecology, botany, and habitat assessments, and exhibit a desire to learn and develop proficiency for multiple habitat types. These are seasonal project-based positions that will be located along a stretch between Crystal Falls, Michigan and Green Bay, Wisconsin. Work is expected to begin in May 2026 and end in August 2026. Employment may continue beyond August if there is continuing work available. The pay rate for these positions is $25.00 to $35.00 per hour based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidates. These are non-exempt positions and will receive overtime compensation for any time worked over 40 hours a week. Lodging, meals, and mileage will be reimbursed at a standard per diem rate. why Merjent? Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or pursuing) or higher in natural resources.
  • Experience in fieldwork is strongly desired.
  • Ability to lift and move up to twenty-five pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use all limbs, talk, and hear.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The work environment will consist of remote field settings, and in some instances, irregular and/or steep terrain.
  • Familiarity with ESRI software and GPS data collection.
  • Familiarity with acoustic bat survey types and associated protocols.
  • Ability to conduct field work for 10+ hours per day, sometimes in adverse conditions.
  • Ability to work weekends, multi-week shifts away from home and regularly work more than 40 hours per week.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare/pack equipment for fieldwork.
  • Deploy acoustic equipment under supervision of biological survey lead.
  • Work remotely for extended periods, both individually and as part of a team.
  • Collect data with close attention to detail, following established protocols.
  • Data entry and proofing.
  • Comply with Merjent and project or client specific safety requirements.
