About The Position

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Understand and know the sport of basketball and Upward rules for levels 1-3 by familiarizing yourself with the Upward Referee Handbook.
• Attend a Mandatory Pre-Season Upward Referee Training - January 6 from 9-11 AM.
• Lead by example - demonstrate a Christlike attitude through your officiating.
• Control the game - keeping the game under control while promoting a competitive experience.
• Communicate with coaches, players, other officials, and spectators.
• Employ proper positioning and refereeing mechanics.
• Manage Substitutions.
• Execute Pre-Game tasks to set a tone of safety and positive sportsmanship for players and coaches, including leading prayer.
• Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the game.
• Participate in the post-game handshake with coaches and players.
• Pass a criminal background check. (Applicants 18+ Only).
• Review, sign, and adhere to First Baptist Church's Children and Youth Protection Policy.
• Make accurate calls and decisions in real-time.
• Manage conflicts or disputes that may arise during games.
• Maintain a professional and unbiased demeanor throughout the game.
