About The Position

Faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality education for all WWCC students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher, mentor, and facilitator of learning. This position reports to the Dean of Corrections Education at CRCC and will be responsible for teaching classes to offenders housed at CRCC. Successful candidates will teach assigned classes, prepare teaching materials, assign grades, maintain records, and consult with students as required by the instructional division. This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections.

Requirements

  • Must reside in either WA, OR, ID, CA, IL, PA, or TX.
  • Bachelor's degree in an academic subject area required; master's degree desired.
  • Experience teaching in a correctional facility desired.
  • Experience as an instructional trainer/teacher at the secondary or post-secondary level, correctional, industrial, corporate, and/or workplace setting desired.
  • Curriculum development and evaluation, student advising and student recruitment experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ABE, GED, ELA (English Language Acquisition) and/or HS21+ classes utilizing both lecture and laboratory modes of instruction.
  • Participate in curriculum revision, program management, and research related activities.
  • Interview and screen prospective students into the program.
  • Maintain competency assessment records and student progress accountability measures on all students enrolled in the assigned course sections.
  • Track and assign grades.
  • Ensure that classroom/lab and equipment are in excellent condition and maintained.
  • Participate in meetings and trainings as required by the college of DOC.
