About The Position

The position is responsible for providing optimum patient care in accordance with the Alabama Department of Health EMS Rules and Regulations. The individual will ensure the safe operations of NorthStar EMS vehicles in compliance with the current Alabama motor vehicle code.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver license.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current State of Alabama EMT-Intermediate-Credentialed or EMT-Basic license with Driver (EVOC) endorsement.
  • No DUI or drug-related convictions in the past five years.
  • No more than two traffic tickets or motor vehicle accidents in the past three years.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with various agencies and the public.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle conflict situations with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Working knowledge of the physical layout and demographics of NorthStar EMS coverage area.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills to deliver optimum patient care as an EMT role model.
  • Conduct thorough examinations of patients for signs and symptoms of illness/injury.
  • Provide prompt and efficient care and stabilization of patients prior to transport.
  • Carefully handle patients during transport to the ambulance.
  • Safely transport patients while monitoring their condition and providing ongoing care.
  • Ensure orderly transfer of patients to their destination.
  • Use procedures to gain access to and disentangle patients requiring extrication when necessary.
  • Supervise EMT trainees and other observers on the unit.
  • Safely operate NorthStar EMS vehicles in accordance with Alabama motor code.
  • Stock and maintain ambulance and its contents in a state of readiness.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure patient safety and stabilization.
  • Collaborate with local BLS, ALS, fire, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Document all patient care, assessments, and service reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate actively in NEMS QA.
  • Maintain units, radios, equipment, supplies, and stations in a state of readiness.
  • Make daily checks of vehicle equipment and systems as required.
  • Participate in the training and evaluation of new employees and students when requested.
  • Act professionally and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follow the NEMS chain of command and QA programs.
  • Read and understand written instructions and communicate effectively.
