The Base SAS Consultant position at the University of Texas at Dallas is a temporary role focused on providing general support for SAS programming. The consultant will work for an anticipated duration of 8-9 months, with responsibilities including consolidating existing SAS programs, restructuring code, improving data extraction processes, and providing training and documentation for revised programs. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.

  • Consolidate existing SAS programs by merging multiple programs that generate the same report into a single program.
  • Restructure SAS code into a logical flow, adding comments to document program logic.
  • Remove redundancies in SAS programs, such as consolidating renamed tables and eliminating legacy code.
  • Improve the data extraction process from the data warehouse to enhance run times.
  • Establish separate purpose-specific SAS programs for redundant code used across multiple programs.
  • Create best practices for inserting comments in the code, including dates for modifications.
  • Document the logic and business rules that generate data and any historical context from code comments.
  • Produce performance metrics as files are developed.
  • Update SAS programs to create summary statistic reports in addition to fixed-width text file data submissions.
  • Offer recommendations to improve reporting efficiency.
  • Provide training and documentation for revised SAS programs.
  • Prepare estimations of completion time for each SAS program.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two years of full-time experience writing, revising, and troubleshooting Base SAS programs.
  • Experience using MS Office 365 products.
  • Previous experience as an SAS consultant is preferred.
  • Base SAS certification preferred.
  • Previous higher education experience is a plus.
  • Remote work arrangement available.
