About The Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION Bartenders are in charge of managing drink orders at our Hog Island Oyster Bars to keep customers satisfied during meals or social gatherings. Bartenders have extensive knowledge of common drinks which they use to recommend drinks to customers, prepare cocktails, pour beers and properly decant wines. Bartenders also entertain customers who sit at the bar by providing stimulating conversation and excellent customer service while filling drink orders for other customers. Their role is to ensure that customers are of legal drinking age and then prepare a requested drink to their specifications. GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide high quality service to our customers Greet guests in a timely manner and take orders Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations Knowledge of mixology for traditional and creative cocktails Mix and serve drinks following our set standard recipes and procedures Understanding of unique and complementary flavor pairings Impeccable customer service and social perceptiveness Ability to evaluate customer satisfaction and responsiveness Ability to enforce company policies regarding the consumption of alcohol Accountability in maintaining inventory and processing payments Maintain a safe and clean environment for guests and team Carry out all tasks with attention to detail, cleanliness, and safety Assist with inventory as needed. Other duties as assigned. GOALS Deliver consistently excellent and tasty beverages that make customers happy to be here and return. Use local, seasonal and sustainably-produced products adhering to B Corp standards. Foster teamwork and a sense of camaraderie; Create and maintain a happy, comfortable, respectful, and collaborative workplace. Familiar with all front of house work stations and able to pitch in and help out at a moment’s notice. Learn, model, and convey Hog Island Values and Guiding Principles in the daily work environment.

Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience working as a bartender
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with staff and management
  • Must be consistently proactive, punctual, organized, efficient, solution oriented, and positive
  • Strong knowledge of spirits, wine, champagne, and mixed cocktails
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and speak English proficiently
  • Familiarity with Bar SOPs and safety practices
  • Must have a valid California Food Handler certificate
  • Must have a valid Responsible Beverage Service certificate.
