About The Position

The Cliffs Hotel & Spa is the premier oceanfront hotel on the Central Coast, known for its beautiful ocean views and outstanding customer service. It is a locally owned business that actively supports the local community through donations and philanthropic events. Marisol at The Cliffs Hotel & Spa is expanding and is seeking a gracious, thoughtful, and motivated part-time Bartender. This role is responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience in the Marisol Bar and Lounge, maintaining a timely flow of service, providing a personalized bar experience, and modeling The Cliffs' Mission and Values and Forbes standards while engaging with guests in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Responsible Beverage Service training & ABC exam, or be willing to take exam upon hire
  • Working knowledge of guest services in a luxury hotel setting
  • Excellent command of English language
  • Ability to work with people effectively
  • Ability to multitask and work in mentally demanding situations

Responsibilities

  • Must be available 3 shifts per week minimum
  • Must be available to work weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Greet and engage all guests in the bar/lounge with a welcoming, friendly attitude, within 1-2 minutes; using the guest's name in accordance with their preference
  • Engage with guests in an articulate manner, using correct verbiage and avoiding slang and use of phrase-fragments
  • Take, place, deliver and serve food and beverage orders
  • Asks each guest about dietary restrictions, preferences, or allergies; or proactively acknowledges these if previously been made known
  • Demonstrates genuine interest in each guest, personalizing the bar experience consistently and respectfully
  • Guides guest through the ordering process, sharing knowledge and details of menu items (taste, texture, preparation, presentation), providing menu recommendations based on the needs of the guest
  • Takes initiative to deliver anticipatory service, automatically providing or offering items to meet the guests' needs (refills, condiments, dessert, etc.)
  • Delivers on guest requests, offering appropriate alternatives if original request can't be satisfied
  • Shares local expertise when making recommendations to guests through providing first-hand knowledge and testimony, providing directions and transportation options when appropriate
  • Reacts to any and all guest complaints in a timely, discreet and professional manner; offering appropriate alternatives to difficult requests in partnership with the Restaurant Manager
  • Assists as needed to maintain standards of appearance, sanitation and service in all areas of the bar/lounge
  • Ensure quality of ingredients, preparation, presentation, and correct temperature of food served to guests
  • Ensure time standards are met
  • Exhibit appropriate selling skills in suggestions of food and beverage
  • Demonstrate an attitude of friendly hospitality in every aspect of service
  • Closes out each dining experience with using the guests' name, a thank you, and a warm wish
  • Communicate pleasantly and graciously with guests, management and co-workers
  • Comply fully and consistently with all the hotel and restaurant conditions of employment and standards of uniform, grooming
  • Performs all other tasks as directed by manager
