About The Position

Shade at Higgins Beach Inn is seeking a bartender to join our experienced and fun team. Authentic hospitality and service with both our employees and guests are our priority. Location: Higgins Beach Inn, Scarborough, ME Hours: 16-40 hours per week Compensation: $12 per hour plus tips Seasonal Position: Now through October 25th Start date: ASAP Benefits: Discounted stays and food & beverage at affiliated properties Experience: Previous experience is required JOB SUMMARY : Working as amember of our Food & Beverage Team, ensure that guests have anenjoyable experience by providing quality customer service, while mixingand responsibly serving of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages,accurately processing and collecting payment, and stocking and cleaningof our licensed premise. Work closely with Restaurant Management,Kitchen Staff and Food & Beverage personnel to help guarantee ourguests a Food & Beverage experience which exceeds theirexpectations.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous beverage service required.
  • Abilityto communicate in English, both orally and written, with guests andemployees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact anddiplomacy.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Abilityto understand verbal directions, as well as written menus, recipes,labels on foods and chemicals, and other workplace safety signage.
  • Active listening and observation skills.
  • Knowledge of common food allergies and understanding of cross-contamination issues.
  • Outgoing personality, with good oral comprehension, expression, and speech clarity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.
  • Frequentwalking, bending, balancing, stooping, reaching, pushing, lifting,manual dexterity and repetitive motions.
  • May require the ability to workon uneven outdoor surfaces.
  • Occasional stair climbing.
  • Working in extreme temperatures and conditions both indoors and out.
  • Schedule varies according to operational needs; may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split-shifts.
  • Frequent hand-washing.
  • Hazards include, but are not limited to cuts from knives or wine openers, burns, lifting injuries slips, and tripping.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance with a properly cleaned uniform.
  • Besure bar is correctly set up and fully stocked before shift begins andthat bar is properly cleaned and closed at end of shift according toproperty specifications.
  • Assist with ongoing bar inventory keeping trackof wines, beers, liquors and other supplies.
  • Greet guests warmly, politely and in a timely manner.
  • Speak to guests with enthusiasm.
  • Beprepared to answer questions about beverage service and beverage menu,including liquors, beers, wines, and non-alcoholic choices.
  • Recognizeopportunities to up-sell where appropriate.
  • Understand State of Maine regulatory responsibilities regarding service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Mixand serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests according toproperty specifications, courteously and efficiently.
  • Avoid overpoursand spillage.
  • Complete affidavit required by the MaineDepartment of Public Safety Liquor Licensing and Inspection Divisionconfirming eligibility to sell liquor.
  • Understand order takingsystems to be able to clearly, accurately and quickly covey guest ordersusing computer or manual systems.
  • Deliver beverages in anefficient manner following appropriate beverage service techniques.
  • Ensure that drinks are presented to guests as ordered and according torestaurant quality standards.
  • Clear tables of drinks and dishes asrequired.
  • Clean glassware, barware, and dishes using mechanical ormanual methods.
  • Work with Servers and Bussers to ensure thatguests needs are continually met.
  • Help to educate other members of theFood & Beverage Team on beverages available and service techniques
  • Assist guests with any needs, corrections or additional items desired during service.
  • Prepareand present customer bills.
  • Correctly understand all payment methodsaccepted, how to process payment, make change, and open/close cashdrawer, if required.
  • Understand reporting requirements for tips.
  • Abilityto safely operate restaurant equipment including, but not limited tocoffee makers, refrigeration, juice machines, ice machines, ice crusher,point of sale systems, etc.
  • Handle and communicate special orders and guest complaints in a professional manner.
  • Maintain bar service areacleanliness as well as personal cleanliness and sanitation standards asrequired by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and OSHA,as well as general maintenance and upkeep of the licensed premise.
  • Know who to notify in case of broken equipment or unsafe/unsanitary conditions.
  • Must be able to manually handle/lift/carry product up to 60 pounds between knee and shoulders.
  • Must have bilateral fine manipulation of both hands which may be repetitive for entire shift.
  • Must be vertically mobile working in limited space for entire shift.
