About The Position

The Barre Group Exercise Instructor will lead group exercise classes following the guidelines of the YMCA of the USA and the Director of Group Exercise. The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is a non-profit organization serving Chester County, dedicated to nurturing potential, promoting healthy living, and fostering social responsibility. YGBW was named a 2025 Top Workplace by The Philadelphia Inquirer for a second consecutive year. The role involves conducting classes safely and professionally, acting as a positive YMCA role model, and ensuring all scheduled classes are held and start/end on time. Instructors are expected to greet participants, take attendance, utilize Upace Group Ex technology for sub tracking and class communication, respond to YMCA emails, adapt classes for participants' limitations, and promote a healthy lifestyle. They will also attend advanced training workshops and participate in special events.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Shift availability Friday afternoon and evenings.
  • At least 1 year of participation in group exercise class(es) required.
  • Possess and maintains at least one current Group Exercise certificate of completion or specialty certificate from a reputable organization for each specialized group modality.
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct group exercise classes according to the guidelines set forth by the YMCA of the USA and the Director of Group Exercise.
  • Conduct group exercise classes and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous and professional manner.
  • Be a positive YMCA role model with an enthusiastic attitude.
  • All scheduled classes will be held, and sub coverage secured.
  • Classes will start and end on time.
  • Greet participants and learn their names.
  • Take class attendance.
  • Familiarize yourself with our Upace Group Ex technology which includes but is not limited to sub tracking system, class contact feature, class cancellation.
  • Check and respond in a timely fashion to your YMCA email.
  • Identify your participants’ limitations and adapt your classes and/or provide modifications accordingly.
  • Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with your class.
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • Attend advanced training workshops that are offered throughout the year by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (or another co-op member YMCA).
  • Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year.
  • Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
