About The Position

The Barn Manager ensures delivery of a successful equestrian program that provides a quality, creative, challenging, and progressive riding program to campers. The Barn Manager ensures that all horses are taken care of, with the appropriate daily use, feed schedules and medication dosages.

Requirements

At least 21 years of age.
Member of GSUSA or willingness to become so.
Belief in the mission of GSUSA and GSGI.
Certified or ability to become certified in CPR/First Aid.
CHA Level 2 certificate or documented experience with horses.
1 year of experience working with children in an equestrian setting, including lessons and equine care.
Interest in caring for children in an outdoor setting.
Demonstrates sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
Experience in supervising others in a community or outdoor setting.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent health and stamina.

Responsibilities

Develops and implements the equestrian program, including riding lessons, equine care, and barn management.
Maintains awareness of camper and staff behavior always, enforcing safety regulations and procedures.
Assesses rider ability using CHA guidelines to determine riding level.
Assesses soundness and riding level of horses.
Trains and supervises Riding Instructors and Equestrian Counselors.
Performs daily care of horses and coordinates care with staff, veterinarians, and vendors.
Manages the herd including feeding, watering, grooming, medication, and exercise when appropriate.
Maintains all horse records and medical reports, including recommendations.
Cleans the barn and all tack and barn equipment.
Participates in all-camp activities such as campfires, flag ceremonies, and programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
