About The Position

As a Barista at HIVE Bakery & Cafe, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional coffee and tea experiences to our guests. Your role involves preparing and serving beverages with precision, maintaining high standards of presentation, and ensuring a seamless guest experience in both the bar and dining room areas.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of coffee and tea.
  • Proficiency in reading tickets and organizing tasks for efficient service.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Professional communication and social skills suitable for guest interaction.
  • Ability to lift and carry trays, bags, and boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of standing and walking for 8–10-hour shifts.
  • Able to reach, bend, stoop, and perform tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Must be available for flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays.
  • Understanding potential hazards such as cuts, burns, slips, trips, and falls.

Responsibilities

  • Beverage Preparation: Prepare coffee and tea beverages following our established recipes and presentation guidelines. Demonstrate expertise in latte art, ensuring designs are symmetrical, centered, and have good contrast. Adhere to barista steam rules, such as prioritizing larger drinks and adjusting temperature for smaller ones.
  • Operational Duties: Prep and steam milk, set up americano sets, and organize cups for to-go drinks. Call out names and serve coffee/tea drinks to guests with a friendly and professional demeanor. Maintain and clean the coffee bar area, ensuring it is stocked, organized, and ready for service. Perform opening, side, and closing duties as per standard operating procedures.
  • Guest Interaction: Engage with guests to ensure their beverage and service expectations are met. Provide knowledgeable information about the restaurant and our offerings. Communicate guest feedback and any issues to management promptly.
  • Safety and Hygiene: Respond quickly to spills and ensure a safe environment for both guests and team members. Operate and maintain cleanliness of equipment, including the espresso machine. Follow sanitation and safety standards, including proper food handling and storage procedures.
  • Accurately fulfill beverage orders and maintain high standards of presentation.
  • Uphold professional appearance and attire in line with HIVE Bakery & Café standards.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards are consistently met.
