About The Position

The Food Service Assistant, which includes the Barista role, is responsible for a variety of duties within the food service department. This includes monitoring and recording proper food temperatures, setting up and maintaining a clean and sanitized serving area, and preparing and serving food items. The role also involves restocking food areas, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, and processing payments for food and beverages using a computerized register. Adherence to Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food service is required. The position emphasizes providing outstanding customer service, effective communication with patrons and co-workers, and maintaining quality control standards. The assistant may operate various kitchen and serving equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Possesses an understanding of food safety and sanitation processes
  • Demonstrates ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk far distances
  • Serv Safe may be required to obtain within a designated time frame (depending upon location of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required (depending upon location requirements)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience
  • Retail counting and reconciliation of money
  • Knowledge of food service
  • Experience working in the food industry

  • Operating equipment such as, but not limited to, grills, beverage machines, toasters, ice cream dispensers, cash registers, computerized cash registers, steam equipment, dishwashers, telephones, refrigerators and freezers
  • Working independently when necessary
