About The Position

The Millennium Hotel and Resorts is seeking a dedicated and passionate Banquets Cook to join our dynamic culinary team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in our banquet operations, preparing high-quality food for various events and ensuring that our guests have a memorable dining experience. The Banquets Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting food items according to the menus and specifications set forth by the culinary team. You will work diligently in collaboration with other kitchen staff to create beautiful and delicious dishes that meet our high standards of quality and presentation. The historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel has been a legendary Los Angeles landmark since 1923. With exquisite Spanish-Italian Renaissance architecture, including stunning hand-painted ceilings, its rich history is most noted for its connection with the Oscars - the founding banquet for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was held in the Crystal Ballroom in 1927, where the original "Oscar" statuette was sketched on a Biltmore napkin, and eight Academy Awards banquets were held in the Biltmore Bowl during the '30s and '40s. This iconic hotel has also been and continues to be featured on many Hollywood films, TV shows, and music videos. The hotel has 70,000 square feet of flexible function space and 683 modern guest rooms, including 60 suites. Conveniently located in the heart of the Financial District, in a vibrant part of downtown Los Angeles, and only steps from Angel’s Flight, a unique funicular railway experience providing a great view of the area, as well as other noteworthy landmarks including the Brockman Building, Ernst and Young Plaza, the Fine Arts Building, and Los Angeles Public Library. The hourly rate for this position is $27.56 per hour. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a hotel or banquet setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary methods.
  • Ability to work well in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in the kitchen.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to physically lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Passion for food and commitment to quality service.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food items according to standardized recipes and specifications for banquet events.
  • Assist in planning and organizing menu items for different events, ensuring variety and seasonal availability.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations and equipment, in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Monitor food stock levels and assist in inventory management as required.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and communicate effectively with the kitchen and banquet staff.
  • Prepare dishes with attention to detail in presentation and flavor to wow our guests.
  • Participate in daily kitchen operations and assist in training new kitchen staff.
  • Handle food with care, ensuring specifications are met for participants with food allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Sous Chef or Chef de Cuisine.
