Join our team and help us shape the future of hospitality in Newport. What you will have an opportunity to do: We are seeking a highly motivated Banquet Captain to join our team. This individual plays a key role in directing the setup and preparation of banquet spaces, executing food and beverage service, and overseeing the breakdown of events. Working closely with the F&B Manager, the Banquet Captain leads and supports banquet servers and house staff, ensuring seamless execution of all events. As a primary point of contact for banquet guests, this role serves as a professional representative of the property, delivering exceptional service and creating memorable guest experiences. The Banquet Captain is responsible for coordinating all aspects of room setup and food and beverage service, with a focus on enhancing guest satisfaction and supporting overall event success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in hospitality or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in banquet, catering, or food and beverage operations required
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a banquet or high-volume event setting required
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced, service-driven environment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong guest service focus
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and event details simultaneously
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service standards, banquet operations, and event execution
  • Ability to anticipate guest needs and respond with professionalism and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards
  • Ability to stand and remain active for extended periods and lift moderate weights as needed
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist with setup of banquet functions, including table arrangements, linens, place settings, and décor, ensuring alignment with event specifications
  • Coordinate and lead service during events, ensuring seamless execution and adherence to service standards
  • Supervise banquet staff, providing direction and support throughout all phases of service
  • Ensure all food and beverage items are presented and served according to quality and presentation standards
  • Conduct final quality checks prior to service to ensure accuracy and readiness
  • Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly to requests, and resolve concerns with professionalism
  • Maintain a strong presence on the floor, monitoring guest satisfaction and service flow
  • Communicate effectively with culinary and event teams to ensure timely and accurate service
  • Oversee and assist with the breakdown of events, ensuring proper clearing, cleaning, and storage of equipment and materials
  • Ensure banquet spaces, back-of-house areas, and storage rooms are clean, organized, and well-maintained
  • Support the setup and replenishment of meeting breaks, including coffee, beverages, and light refreshments
  • Ensure team members follow proper food handling, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Train and mentor banquet staff to uphold service excellence and brand standards
  • Assist with special requests and accommodate dietary restrictions with attention to detail
  • Maintain awareness of safety and security concerns and address issues promptly
  • Provide guests with accurate information about the property and offer a warm, professional welcome and departure experience
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall hotel operations and guest satisfaction
