SUMMARY The Balancing Machinist is responsible for overseeing measurement and correction of imbalances in rotating components, including rotors, impellers and magnets. Duties include operating balancing equipment, analyzing readings, and making the necessary adjustments to achieve balanced components and vibration-free operation. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong proficiency in basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals
  • 1-2 years’ experience in operating manual and/or balancing machinery and tooling
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-focused environment
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the US
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • While performing duties of the job, employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear
  • Required to wear safety glasses and shoes, and utilize other safety equipment as required while present on the production floor

Responsibilities

  • Ensure parts are balanced to meet production goals, including cycle time, quantity and quality.
  • Set up and operate balancing machines; ensure proper fixtures and speeds are utilized per setup instructions.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first run part and sample workpieces.
  • Properly and safely select, align, secure and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.
  • Interpret readings from balancing instruments to determine amount of weight to be removed from component; change size and location of test weight until zero reading is indicated on machine.
  • Perform in-process inspection of machine parts to ensure manufacturing adherence to all quality requirements.
  • Measure and check dimensions and tolerances using measuring devices, including (but not limited to) calipers.
  • Perform daily maintenance on machinery.
  • Conduct routine inspection and request replacement of worn-out tooling as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis for machine part non-conformities; identify and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Perform daily 6S activities to ensure organization and cleanliness of work area.
  • Perform necessary transactions in ERP system to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.
